Community Research Collaboration Awards
Since 1997, CBCRP’s Community Research Collaboration (CRC) awards have funded partnerships between community organizations and research scientists. These teams work together to identify pressing breast cancer questions, design studies, collect and analyze data, and share findings with the community and scientific audiences.
By combining the lived experience of communities with the expertise of researchers, CRC teams conduct impactful, community-driven research that informs public health and reduces the burden of breast cancer.
Community Research Collaboration (CRC) FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES
We offer three types of CRC awards. Choose the one that best fits your research stage and needs.
Community Research Collaboration (CRC) Planning Award
The CRC Planning Award provides funding for teams to develop a strong grant proposal for a CRC Pilot or Full award. No research activities take place during this phase. Awardees must complete a free community-partnered participatory research technical support program during the award year.
Duration: Up to 12 months.
Budget: Up to $15,000 (direct costs)
Offered: Every other year (next: Cycle 33 / 2026-2027)
Community Research Collaboration (CRC) Pilot award
The CRC Pilot Award supports early-stage projects focused on building collaborations, refining research methods, and collecting preliminary data.
Duration: Up to 18 months
Budget: Up to $200,000 (direct costs)
Offered: Annually
Community Research Collaboration (CRC) Full award
The CRC Full Award funds well-developed research projects with supporting preliminary data. Typically, these projects build on research initiated with a CRC Pilot Award.
Duration: Up to 3 years
Budget: Up to $600,000 (direct costs)
Offered: Every other year (next: Cycle 32 / 2025-2026)
All CRC award types are eligible for indirect cost recovery. Non-UC institutions are entitled to full F&A of the Modified Total Direct Cost base (MTDC); UC institutional F&A is capped at 35% MTDC (not retroactive to prior grants).
