Susan Claymon

Susan Claymon, often referred to as a “founding mother” of the breast cancer movement, is a twelve year breast cancer fighter. She was a member of the team that drafted the legislative language for the Breast Cancer Act of 1993, which created the California Breast Cancer Research Program. Susan served as the first chair of the Breast Cancer Research Council, from 1994 to 1996.

Ms. Claymon is co-founder of Breast Cancer Action (BCA), a grassroots organization established in 1990, whose mission is to serve as a catalyst for the prevention and cure of breast cancer—through advocacy and education. She served as past president of BCA and currently serves as secretary.

Susan Claymon currently serves as coordinator for Art.Rage.Us, a Spring 1997 exhibition of art and writing by women with breast cancer. She also serves as a coordinator for Health Care Without Harm, a national coalition working on environmentally safe health care practices. Ms. Claymon was a presenter at the World Conference on Breast Cancer held in Ontario, Canada in July of 1997.
